So have you Chromed as yet
Another browser in the market… If the rivalry between firefox and IE wasn’t enough we have the big daddy taking in the plunge with chrome. Google Inc the company that rules the internet… the guys who hold the gateway to the world wide web…. have just launched a new browser… but why? I mean they all but own firefox… and seriously why would they want to have a browser of their own… Who cares what browser people use as long as they google…
The guys at google are not fools… far from it... they are probably the smartest conglomerate ever assembled… So what is chrome?
Chrome is step 1 to take on the biggest mc daddy of all.. The Windows OS… Windows is an OS that runs applications… Applications like word, powerpoint, excel etc….Google is a company that makes websites and web applications like gmail, google docs etc… Windows application sit on your machine and google web application sit on a server somewhere in the world…Hmm let’s begin by blurring the difference between windows applications and web applications… In comes Chrome.
If you see the file menu on chrome you will find an option called create applications shortcut…Create one for gmail and voila you have a windows application like shortcut on your desktop. Click on it and it opens without the url window…. Making it look like a machine based application… Or try seeing a webpage with a file upload option on it….Here is how it looks on IE and Chrome..
(file upload IE)
(file upload Chrome)
See how chrome interprets the "input type=file" html tag as only a button and not as a text box and button combo… Basically chrome is doing its best to make web pages look like applications.
Next google will hope that developers take their cue and start designing web pages as applications.. Ajax is already here… with this it will move into mainstream web programming big time..
Endgame would be you boot up your PC… windows loads up… open Chrome.. and chrome takes over from there..
Will it or is it just a figment of my imagination. Time will tell.

1) It has Google Gears built in (Answer to your web application thing). If this becomes popular it will start to open up all sorts possibilities as far as improving web applications.
2) They have build their own Javascript Engine. You have to wonder why with all the ones available they thought current implementations weren’t up to scratch. Check, http://ejohn.org/blog/javascript-performance-rundown/
Its amazing to see competition in this browser world of internet. Now innovation will pop-up.

You might wanna mention a thing or two about the so called option in chrome that says, "Help make Google Chrome better by automatically sending usage statistics and crash reports to Google" ... crash report is less than 1% of the data that goes back to Google. The rest is USAGE STATS (could be any bloody stats) ;) ... your entire usage activity is logged and converted to meaningful data and sent back to Google.
Voila! you just signed your online life away ;)
