Corporation X is a multinational.. Dealing in all sorts of products from clothes to food beverages. Has production in one country.. Packaging in another.. And the market for finished goods a third one. Employees spread over three continents.. How does it manage the supply chain… the pay roll, the inventory management etc of the company.. In comes IT. IT in these mega corporations enables them to effortlessly integrated all the operations. Share data across different departments, countries.. Its hard to imagine having any global corporations if it wasn’t for IT..
Here IT is the business enabler.. Instead of being the real revenue earner. The value that IT brings in is measured in terms of time and effort saved on doing a certain task.. For eg collecting data for the yearly financial report,.. IT is not bringing in the moolah directly but it is helping by making the process more efficient,

Since so many companies need IT. There has to be someone which will give them this. The softwares to manage these operations and hardware to run these softwares on. The tech companies came in to business world around the 60s-70s with IBM leading the way.. They were a new breed of companies generating revenue by selling IT services. By providing solutions to mega corporations to enable their business. Then came companies like Microsoft and Apple. They took IT to the normal consumers. . Products like PC, laptop, mobile phones, ipod, playstation are part of every household. The advent of the Internet helped revolutionise how people saw technology. Internet in turn created an economy of it own.. Here IT becomes the business bringing in the money.
