Best weapon in an immigrant’s armoury is RACISM

From the day I landed in Australia…. I was bombarded with warnings of racism by my fellow south Asians…. From professors at the uni to staff at university accommodation..... Everyone (Caucasian) was classified as racist or not…. Being a FOB I had no choice but to listen to the ones who were here before me…. As time passed I couldn’t find anything to justify these classifications…But there has to be a reason to why they were called what they were called…..

Yes there was… Professors were labelled racist because they were strict in the way they marked their assignments….Because they were pedantic about plagiarism… And if you happen to flunk his class blame the racist.

The list goes on if you don’t get a job… If your bags are checked…. If you are stopped on the road…. It is because of racism

Anyways coming to the recent spate of attacks on Indian students… For the records I condemn these attacks… I supported and was part of the protest march from fed square to parliament… I could relate to the pain and fear of the students who were attacked…. But what I don’t support is branding the entire country as racist….

No country is without racism… It exists in one form or another…. People who perpetrate such attacks are not part of the mainstream society in any country….  Blaming the entire country/society is just plain wrong…

The fact that Indian students could hold a protest march in central Melbourne and completely stop traffic for 12 hours is a testimony to Australia’s tolerant attitude… I can’t imagine holding a rally in central Delhi or Mumbai without the support of a political party…

And Australia will act not because they want to save their education industry but the average Australian is appalled by these attacks… No self respecting Australian would want to be branded as a racist….

I have been in Australia for 4 years now… Not one comment not one racial slur or incident I have to support this claim of racist Australia….On the contrary I have had people bend rules for me because they thought I was a deserving candidate for a job.

I think racism is a two way street… I have seen many of my fellow countrymen use it as an excuse for their shortcomings… We hardly ever integrate in the Australian society…. I mean how many Indians can name any 5 footy clubs here…. Or have an opinion on the issues facing the country of their residence…. Here what I wrote 2 years ago
